Hotmail goes to 2GB of mail storage
Microsoft will be rolling out the next version of their mail service Hotmail, possibly as early as next Wednesday to keep the competition on the same line. The new version, Code-named “Kahuna”, will support many interesting features and new style such as automatic inbox refreshing and a preview pane which will let Hotmail users work inside of their inbox while responding to and reading email.
The expected announcement on Wednesday could also include announcements of the beta version of Internet Explorer 7 as well as Windows Vista. Also with the upgrade of interface and features comes a nice free bump of storage space for all users to two gigabytes. The increased storage space would put Hotmail on a more equal level with its players. Google’s Gmail offers two gigabytes, as does Yahoo! Mail.
Another addition coming with the new release will include some upgrades to Microsoft’s Sender identification technology originally pushed by the Redmond Company in hopes to limit the amount of spam and phishing messages overwhelming user’s mail boxes. America Online is one of the companies supporting this technology after moving their service to be more compatible with competing anti-spam technologies. The Sender ID has been included in the Hotmail service since January of this year but knowing Hotmail is behind in some areas, Microsoft has revamp the service and says it is ready for competition.
