784 new lawsuits against P2P users

The Recording Industry Association of America has filled a new series of 784 new complains against peer-to-peer users from Kazaa, Grokster and LimeWire for violation of copyright. This comes two days after the US Supreme Court ruling on software makers of peer-to-peer networks who encourage people to make unauthorized copies of copyrighted songs, films or other copyrighted content.

“The ruling provided a real shot in the arm to legitimate online music services and unanimously injected moral clarity into this debate” said Mitch Bainwol, chairman and chief executive of the RIAA, which represents the US recording industry.

Further on he said;

“If there was any doubt left, there should now be none - individuals who download music without permission are breaking the law”.

Since the launch of its legal offense, the RIAA had filed thousands of lawsuits against on-line file swappers in a continues effort to eliminate copyright violations.
