Sony BMG strikes a deal with peer-to-peer Mashboxx

This announcement which comes after the court ruling against peer-to-peer file-sharing networks and software distributors isn’t accidental. Apparently Sony BMG is currently talking with other major record labels and plans to announce more news on deals with other music distributors. The price is set to be the same as Apple iTunes at 99 cents per track which will be distributed using the Mashboxx Snocap technology led by Napster founder Shawn Fanning. Mashboxx’s website is still not live and there are no words on how the system will function but in any case it will be a swarm based peer-to-peer network designed to operate with Snocap’s digital “fingerprint” technology identifying the song and determining if it is copyrighted.
